Established in 1975, the Gir National Park and Sanctuary is full of dry deciduous woodlands, acacia shrub, evergreen and semi-evergreen plants and plains, skirted by rivers and streams. The Gir National Park and Sanctuary has several teak, acacia, jamun, tendu and dhak trees.
Also, several Kalam, Jambu, Charal, Umro, Vad, Karanj, Sirus and Amli are to be found here. The presence of such a variety of evergreen trees provides lots of shade and moisture content.
Fauna:
Gir National Park and Sanctuary has turned out to be a home to numerous wild animals. The Asiatic Lion is the most famous of all the animals preserved here. This endangered species was faced with the scare of extinction so much so that the population dipped to barely 20. Today, however, the figure has risen to 300. A smaller version of the African lion, this predator is at its best seen during dusk or dawn when it is on the move. The 300 leopards are the other points of attraction in Gir National Park and Sanctuary.
