Occupying an area of 430 sq-kms, the Kaziranga National Park, Assam is situated partly in the Golaghat DistKaziranga National Park Assamrict and partly in Nagaon District of Assam. Gracing the Brahmaputra River in the extreme end of North Eastern India, Assam, it is considered by many wildlife lovers as one of the best wildlife destinations in India. Declared a reserve forest in 1926, a wildlife sanctuary in 1940 and a national park in 1974, the park is mainly home to the species of rhinos, tigers, and leopards. Reserving a considerable portion of the wildlife in India and widely acclaimed as a world heritage site, it draws numerous tourists from various parts of the country.

Ideally swamps and tall thickets of elephant grass make for the bulk of vegetation in Kaziranga National Park. Apart from this, the tropical wet evergreen forests and tropical semi-evergreen forests are to be found here. Also, plenty of water lilies, water hyacinth and lotuses add to the beauty of the park. Rattan Cane, a kind of climbing palm, is a wonderful member of the plant community in the park.
Fauna:
One-horned Rhinos happen to be one of the most impressive of all the living creatures in Kaziranga National Park, Assam. Declared a game reserve in 1908 in an exclusive attempt to protect the one-horned rhino, the park is famous for being home to more than thousands of species. A number of birds, reptiles and fish are found in the Kaziranga National Park. The birds include the rested serpent eagle, black - necked stork, bar headed goose, herons, swamp partridges, red jungle fowl, whistling teal, egrets and open billed stork. A visit to the park is incomplete without the exciting elephant rides and the jeep safaris through the swamps and tall grass.
